About Course

COURSE CONTENT

Start your journey towards becoming a phlebotomist with this one-day course, which will teach you all the best practice to perform the venepuncture procedure.

This venepuncture course is written in line with the CH132 National Occupational Standards for Obtaining Venous Blood Samples which have been written by Skills for Health for the NHS, so you can rest assured you will learn everything you need to know to fulfil the requirements of any future employers. This includes:

  • The roles and responsibilities of a phlebotomist.
  • Familiarisation with a variety of equipment.
  • Best practice techniques to collect blood safely and successfully.

This half day course has been developed to most effectively teach you what you need to know to fulfil these standards, with an emphasis on practical, hands on training.

You will also receive a comprehensive course handbook, that you can keep as a valuable reference tool as you continue to grow your experience.

WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?

This course is for people who have had previous training or experience in phlebotomy, but haven’t practiced for a while. Your prior experience will be tested by completing an online test, using the Course Handbook as a guide. Successfully completing this means that you can skip the theory section of the normal Venepuncture Practices & Techniques course, and attend only for the practical session in the afternoon.

If you fail to attain a passing mark on this pre-assessment, you will have to attend the full day, to refresh your knowledge, which may require an extra payment.

EQUIPMENT

You will practice venepuncture using training arms, and vein blocks strapped to a partner, before having the chance to practice on your class mates or trainer (requires additional purchase of the Live Bloods Experience).

TIMINGS

This is a half day course.

There is a lot to squeeze into one day, so please be prepared for a long day. The course starts at 14:00, and, depending on the size of the group, can continue until 17:30 or 18:30.

There may be additional time required at the end for the Live Bloods Experience.
